Maj. Gen. John Norton

On May 16 1966 elements of the "All The Way Brigade" engaged main force enemy units in the Vinh Thanh Valley. This was to be the first of many vicious battles and cruel ambushes that rolled back and forth across the Valley for 21 grueling days. Upon the conclusion of what would become known as "Operation Crazy Horse," the newly appointed Division Commander of the 1st Air Cavalry, Major General John Norton, remarked, "Operation Crazy Horse was started by mistake ...the enemy's not ours."
